The LCO Arts and Culture Association is looking for Ojibwe artists of all disciplines to participate in the second Ojibwe Arts and Culture Festival, August 1, in Cable, WI. For additional information please contact LCO ACA president, Jerry Kirk at 558-1019 or Cathy Begay at 634-1817.
The Mino Maajisewin and Mentoring Children of Promise Programs will have a fundraiser yard sale / taco sale Friday, June 26 from 9-4pm at the LCO Ballfield (Hwy B). They are asking for donations in good condition of any items, such as: clothing, toys, household items, tools, movies, furniture, miscellaneous items. If you are able to donate, please drop off items at the LCO Tribal Office with Melody Guibord or Jenny Bisonette by June 24th, M-F 8-4:30. They appreciate any and all donations. As youre all away, budgets are tight and these funds help us with our programming! Everything counts!
All are graciously invited to join Bishop Peter Christensen, Bishop of the Superior Diocese, for the celebration of CORPUS CHRISTI at St. Francis Solanus Mission on SUNDAY, JUNE 14, at 10:00 a.m. The traditional "Reserve Corpus Christi" Mass, Procession to three decorated outdoor Wigwam Altars and Benediction will conclude with a Turkey and Ham Indian Feast. Adults: $7; Children Under: $3; Takeouts, $8. Everyone is welcome!
The first Woodland Dance Show of the season will be Wednesday, June 17 from 7-8pm at The Landing on Hwy CC. The show will be held each Wednesday evening 7-8pm during the summer through August 12. This event is free and is organized by Becky Taylor and R.J. Smith. All dancers and singers from all ages are needed. For more information please call Becky at 634-2485 or leave a message at 634-8934 ext. 283. All Veterans are encouraged to attend. Vendors are welcome.
The Dance Camp Nitaa-miimi-gabeshiwin will be held June 15-18, June 22-25, and June 29-July 2 from 1-3pm for youth ages 6-18 (5-under with adult supervision). Orientation is June 15 from 12noon to 1:00 at the LCO School Gym. Sign up now! Applications can be picked up at the LCO Tribal Office 634-8934.
The Honor the Earth Royalty Pageant: contestants (males and females) are needed from ages 2 to 21 for four categories: Tiny Tot Miss & Warrior (ages 2-4), Little Miss & Warrior (ages 5-9), Junior Miss & Warrior (ages 10-15), and Miss & Warrior Honor the Earth (ages 16-21). Pageant practices with the youth will be held in the Round Lake community.
The schedule for the Royalty Pageant is as follows: the Pageant is Thursday, July 16at 5pm; last years Royaltys Give Away will be Friday at 5-6:15pm before the 7pm Grand Entry; Coronation will be Saturday 5-5:30; and on Sunday will be the raffle fundraiser.
LCOOCC National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) 2009 will be starting Monday, June 8. There are currently 18 students enrolled. The Opening Ceremony was held this past Tuesday evening in the auditorium. The final day will be July 2, with the closing Awards Ceremony, starting at 11:00 AM in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend our Awards Ceremony and join us for lunch on that day. Catered by Famous Dave's. The staff for NSTI consists of the following people: Mike Smith Director;
