A San Carlos woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $270,000 in tribal funds.

Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Holley Faye Youvella entered her plea in U.S. District Court in Phoenix. She is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 15.

Youvella admitted that between October 2008 and March 2010 while serving as a bookkeeper for Peridot Shopping Center Inc., she embezzled $268,106 from the business owned by the San Carlos Apache tribe.

Authorities say Youvella cashed 237 fraudulent checks drawn from the shopping center’s checking account and made out to her or a member of her family.

They say Youvella also admitted that between June 2010 and August 2010, she stole $4,301 by directing multiple fraudulent electronic payments from the shopping center’s checking account to personal credit and utility accounts.
