South Dakota has received about $4 million in education grants this year to address the needs of Native American students.
The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/q5pK1E ) that about $1.5 million was awarded this year to continue with the five-year College Access Challenge Grant. The state also received an annual $3.5 million grant for the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs.
The two state initiatives have similar goals, including increasing high graduation rates among Native American students and encouraging them to attend post-secondary programs.
