Funeral services with full military honors were held for SGT. JULIAN ARVISO, 52, on June 25, at Cope Memorial Chapel in Gallup. Interment followed at the family plot in Lupton, Arizona. Julian was born May 1, 1959, in Fort Defiance, Arizona. He passed away June 19, 2011, at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, surrounded by his family.
Julian grew up in and around California, Arizona and New Mexico, but it was Gallup that Julian called home and where he grew up. He attended school in California and New Mexico. He was a master jewler and his work was featured in many magazine articles throughout the country. Julian’s army career began in 1985 at Fort Carson, Colorado, after which he was stationed in Germany. He was a decorated soldier, and was honorably discharged in 1989. He then traveled back to New Mexico and Arizona to visit family and friends and ultimately settled back in Gallup. (Navajo Times, June 30, 2011)
