Mcgrenra, Marie R. Broncheau: Walking On

Idaho, Lewiston

Funeral services were held for MARIE R. BRONCHEAU MCGRENRA, 87, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lapwai. Interment followed at Jacques Spur Cemetery. Marie was born September 23, 1923, at Cottonwood Creek. She passed away from pneumonia at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

Marie spoke fluent Nez Perce her and was an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Tribes. She was raised at Cottonwood Creek on a farm where her folks farmed, harvested wheat, and grew vegetables and fruit. She attended grade school at Cottonwood Creek, then Slickpoo Mission and graduated from Culdesac High School, where she played baseball and ran track. She married in 1942, and built a home where they had a fruit orchard with peaches, apricots, pears, plums and cherries. She canned everything that came off the trees, as well as vegetables from her garden, huckleberries, deer, elk and moose meat. Even thought Marie was disabled with painful rheumatoid arthritis, she still enjoyed beading and sewing. (Ta'c Tito'oqan News, October 2011)
