White, James E. Jr. (Oneida)

James E. White Jr., age 82 of Hayward, passed away Sunday, November 18 at Valley Health Care Center in Hayward.

James Ellwyn was born on June 10, 1925 in Escanaba, MI, the son of James E. Sr. and Ida (Skenandor) White. Jim grew up and graduated high school in Oneida. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII, after the military he lived in Chicago, then moved to Milwaukee, WI for several years where he worked at the LADISH Company.

He then lived in Michigan for some time, before moving to Hayward. Jim continued his education attending college at St. Scholastica in Duluth and obtained his masters degree in Sociology from Northland College in Ashland. James worked as a home school coordinator. Jim then moved to Oneida and worked for the Oneida Tribe in JTPA as coordinator for employment assistance program. Jim retired back to Hayward in 1988 and continued working as a bus driver and at the LCO Casino. He was a member of the American Indian Movement since 1969. In 1950 James was united in marriage to Mary Corbine in Chicago.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Hayward; son James White III; step-sons Fred (Lynn) Tribble of Winter, Mike Tribble of LCO; brother Ted White; granddaughter Rachel (Jim) St. Catherine; two great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.

James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lucille Cook and Phyllis Fastwolf.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Rev. Matthew Lewis will officiate with eulogy given by John “Little Bird” Anderson. Military honors accorded by the LCO AMVETS Post 1998. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20 at Pineview Funeral Service, and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the services.

Casket Bearers will be Jim St. Catherine, Pat Trepanier, Jeff Tribble and Michael Tribble.
