Bitsilly, Hoskie Sr.

ARIZONA, Fort Defiance – Funeral services for HOSKIE BITSILLY, SR, 76, were held September 26, 2009, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Fort Defiance, Arizona. Hoskie was born April 4, 1933, in Greasewood, Arizona. He passed away September 20, 2009, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Hoskie was a superintendent of Navajo Forest Product Industry and retired after 33 years. He attended Phoenix Indian School learning vocational studies including paint and body. He was an avid mechanic welder. Hoskie served in the U.S. Army for three years in the Korean War and was discharged as a major staff sergeant. He was a Golden Gloves champion while in the Army. He received numerous awards and medals, including three bronze stars, the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal from President George Bush, Sr., Congressional Medal of Honor, and the Purple Heart.
