Walters, Roy Marvin Navy

ARIZONA, Tonalea – Funeral services were held for ROY MARVIN WALTERS, 75, on January 15, 2010, at the Middle Mesa Baptist Church in Tonalea. Interment followed at the Walters family plot in Middle Mesa, Arizona. Roy was born November 28, 1934, in Tonalea. He passed away January 11, 2010, in Winslow, Arizona.

Roy was the first person from the Navajo Reservation to graduate from Phoenix Indian High School in 1957. He enlisted in the Navy in 1960, served on USS Yorktown (CVS-10) as a ship serviceman and was honorably discharged in 1963. He worked on the railroad, did uranium work, job service,  and attended Navajo Nation Community College and Norhtern Arizona University. He was also an attorney with DNA Legal Services and a high respected medicine man in the Navajo traditional way. (Navajo Times, January 14, 2010)
