Four New Mexico men charged in Navajo shooting death

Albuquerque, New Mexico (AP) October 2010

A federal grand jury has indicted four Navajo men on various charges in connection with the murder of another tribal member and the assault of his son.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Albuquerque identified the four men as 20-year-old Brian Thompson of Standing Rock, 21-year-old Presley Shorty of Littlewater, and Kelvin Augustine and Byron Pahe, both 20 of Crownpoint.

Thompson and Shorty are charged with the murder of Vinton Wally on Sept. 4.

Thompson is also charged in the assault of Nathaniel Wally, while Pahe is accused of concealing the gun used in the alleged crime and Augustine is charged as an accessory.

Prosecutors say the charges stem from a gang-related confrontation at a housing complex in Littlewater.
