Four Navajo government employees accused of theft

Farmington, New Mexico (AP) October 2010

Navajo officials are investigating four people accused of stealing $91,000 from two tribal communities.

The Farmington Daily Times reports that an ethics investigator has filed complaints against Dorothy Rogers, Josephine Bahe, Charlene Begay and Leonard Francisco.

The complaints allege the elected and hired tribal employees received and deposited unauthorized checks from the Iyanbito and Manuelito chapters in New Mexico.

Lawrence John is the executive director of the Ethics and Rules Office. He says the complaints do not carry criminal charges.

Anyone found in violation of ethics laws will be terminated and ordered to pay restitution.

A hearing before the Tribal Council’s Ethics and Rules Committee is set for Oct. 27 and 28.
