Man shot by Isleta Pueblo policeman dies

Albuquerque, New Mexico (AP) October 2010

New Mexico State Police say a man shot by an Isleta Pueblo police officer last week has died.

Authorities say Officer Henry Gabaldon shot 23-year-old Mitch Gray on the night of Oct. 4 near the Isleta Tribal Center.

Gray had been in a coma at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque since the shooting. Police confirmed last week that Gray has died.

Police say Gabaldon responded to a report of a suspicious person at the center and a struggle ensued after the officer tried to restrain the man later identified as Gray.

Investigators say that Gray had a weapon and Gabaldon reacted, shooting him once. Gabaldon was treated for minor injuries.
