US judge rejects deal, sets trial in Elko stabbing

A federal judge in Reno rejected a plea deal and set a Jan. 24 trial for a man accused of assault with a deadly weapon in the stabbing of another man at a home on the upper Elko Indian Colony.

The Elko Daily Free Press reported recently that U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Jones refused Oct. 18 to let Terry Dale Jones Jr. plead guilty to a reduced burglary charge and serve seven more months in federal prison.

The deal would have given Terry Jones 11 months credit for time served since his arrest in the Nov. 16 stabbing of Jared Conklin.

A plea document alleged Conklin provoked a fight with Jones, and that Jones was hospitalized for treatment of head and shoulder injuries before Conklin was stabbed.
