Convicted drug dealer sentenced to 5 years

Phoenix, Arizona (AP) January 2011

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a woman convicted of selling methamphetamine on the Gila River Indian Community has been sentenced to five years in a federal prison.

Prosecutors say 32-year-old Renee Johanna Cannon of Bapchule was sentenced last week for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it in March 2009.

Cannon was arrested following an undercover operation that targeted persons with a history of selling meth and crack out of their homes on the Gila River Indian Community.

During a two-year operation, led by Gila River Police and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs drug unit, detectives watched Cannon working with a co-defendant to sell 18.5 grams of methamphetamine for $1,200 at a local coin-operated laundry.
