Connecticut Supreme Court to hear casino immunity case

Hartford, Connecticut (AP) January 2011

The lawyer for a teen struck by a motorist who was drinking at the Mohegan Sun says his client has settled for an undisclosed sum.

New London lawyer Robert Reardon Jr. said last week that he will withdraw a challenge to claims that the tribal casino is exempt from certain liquor laws. The case was to be heard this week in state Supreme Court.

A spokesman for the Mohegan tribe did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Emily Vanstaen-Holland, 15 at the time, was struck in 2007 by a car driven by someone who had been drinking at the Mohegan Sun. Reardon says she suffered head injuries, a fractured pelvis and lacerated spleen.

Reardon insists the tribal casino is not exempt from the laws, but he wanted to end the lawsuit.
