A Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer accused of cutting his wife with a knife during a domestic dispute in Devils Lake is to stand trial next month.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that a Feb. 24 trial date has been set for 41-year-old Duane Gunville. He pleaded not guilty earlier to an aggravated assault charge that carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison upon conviction.
Authorities say Gunvilles wife needed several stitches for a knife cut on her chest after the alleged incident last August. Gunville was arrested in the Belcourt area after a standoff.
Hes been placed on unpaid administrative leave from his job as a BIA officer on the Spirit Lake Reservation.
