FBI investigating assault on Winnebago reservation

Winnebago, Nebraska (AP) March 2011

The FBI says it’s investigating an alleged assault on a tribal police officer in an officer involved shooting on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in northeast Nebraska.

One person was shot by a tribal officer last week. That person suffered what the FBI says was non-life threatening injuries.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault (BRO’) says that the investigation surrounds an alleged assault on an officer. She says the names of the officer and the person who was shot are not being released, and no information is being released on the wounded person’s condition because it’s an ongoing investigation.

According to its web site, the Winnebago Indian Reservation is home to about 2,600 people. The Winnebago Tribe operates a casino in Sloan in western Iowa.
