Browning man gets five years for shooting at BIA employee

Great Falls, Montana (AP) 9-07

A Browning man who shot at a Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer after a high-speed chase was sentenced September 6 to 57 months in a federal prison.

Michael Juneau was also ordered to pay $3,202 in restitution to the BIA for ramming the officer’s vehicle with his pickup truck during the chase in December 2005.

Officers in Browning spotted a pickup truck with a smashed front end speeding in town on Dec. 5, 2005, and stopped Juneau outside of town.

Juneau threw the truck in reverse, striking the police vehicle, then fled on foot.

Officers found three rifles inside the truck. BIA Sgt. Justine Frye followed Juneau’s footprints in the snow but stopped when Juneau fired five shots.

The search ended four days later when Juneau was found hiding in a Browning residence.
