Bail raised to $500,000 for UA dorm stabbing suspect

Tucson, Arizona (AP) 10-07

A judge in Tucson has increased bail for a University of Arizona student charged with fatally stabbing her roommate to $500,000.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Nanette Warner ordered bail for 18-year-old Galareka Harrison raised from $50,000.

Deputy Pima County Attorney Rick Unklesbay said the lower bail set by a court magistrate wasn’t sufficient.

Chief Assistant Public Defender Robert Hirsh told the judge Harrison’s family does not have the ability to pay $50,000, let alone the higher amount.

Harrison is charged with stabbing 18-year-old Mia Henderson on Sept. 5, and with four other felonies – three counts of forgery and one of identity theft. She’s pleaded not guilty.

Both women were freshmen from the Navajo Reservation.
