Man pleads guilty in crash that killed sister, girlfriend

Billings, Montana (AP) 11-07

A Hardin man has pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter for a March 2006 car crash that killed his sister and his girlfriend as they traveled home from the funeral of another car crash victim.

U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull scheduled a Feb. 7 sentencing hearing for Travis Martin, 20. He is released on special conditions.

Court records say Martin was driving drunk and speeding on Pryor Road on the Crow Indian Reservation on March 8, 2006 with six passengers in his truck when he veered off the road, overcorrected and the truck rolled. Killed were his 16-year-old sister Hannah Martin and his 26-year-old girlfriend Tracy Cedar, both of Hardin.

Four children, ages 4 through 15, were riding in the rear seat of the pickup. Only two were wearing seat belts.

One surviving passenger estimated the truck was traveling 90 to 100 mph at the time of the crash and that there had been an argument over how fast Martin was driving. Investigators were told the truck was running out of gas and Martin was speeding to a gas station at the time of the crash.

The group was traveling home from the funeral of Thomas Glenn of Wyola, who had died from injuries suffered in a vehicle crash.
