Teenager accused in beating death near Belcourt

Dunseith, North Dakota (AP)  11-07

A 17-year-old girl has been arrested in the beating death of a woman.

FBI special agent Paul McCabe said the agency is not releasing
details because of the girl's age, but the case remains under
investigation.

The victim's name has not been released.

"This is still a very active case," McCabe said.

A statement from the U.S. attorney's office said the teenager was
charged "for conduct resulting in the death of a 49-year-old Dunseith
woman on Nov. 4.

"The investigation is ongoing and there can be no further comment at
this point," the statement said.

Federal authorities said recently they were investigating the death
of a woman on the Turtle Mountain reservation near Dunseith, about 20
miles west of Belcourt.

Community residents identified the woman as Danielle Louise Baker,
the Grand Forks Herald reported. An obituary in the Turtle
Mountain Star of Rolla said she was "born to Dennis Banks," who is a
co-founder of the American Indian Movement. Banks said he had a
stepdaughter of the same name, the Herald said.
