Browning man convicted of shooting at BIA employee 4-26-07

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A federal jury convicted a Browning man Thursday of shooting at a Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer after a high-speed chase on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

Michael Juneau, 28, was found guilty of assault on a federal employee and assault with a dangerous weapon. He remains jailed until his Sept. 6 sentencing.

Prosecutors say the incident began when BIA officers tried to stop Juneau in December 2005 for speeding.

When he finally pulled over outside of Browning, Juneau put his truck in reverse and slammed into a police vehicle and fled, court records state.

Officers found three rifles belonging to his uncle inside Juneau's vehicle, which he later abandoned. During a subsequent search, BIA Sgt. Justine Frye reported someone shot at him five times as he was tracking footprints in the snow.

Juneau faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
