Former Comanche police chief sentenced for embezzlement

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (AP) 6-08

Former Comanche Nation Police Chief Ray Anderson is being sentenced to five months in prison for embezzling from the tribe.

Anderson was sentenced in federal court in Oklahoma City. He had pleaded guilty to the charge and resigned as police chief in March.

After his prison sentence Anderson must serve five months home detention and pay more than $50,000 to the tribe.

Prosecutors say Anderson set up a bank account without the tribe’s approval in 2004 and deposited money given to the police department then spent it on gambling, meals and gifts.
