OSBI still seeking witness to Weleetka shooting

Authorities continued to chase leads June 14 and look for a possible witness seen in the rural area where two young girls were shot and killed the weekend before.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said that the agency had received many responses after releasing a sketch a day earlier.

The possible witness was described as an American Indian male, about 6 feet tall, with black hair and a ponytail. He was seen standing near a white Ford or Chevrolet single cab pickup truck with an Oklahoma license tag near the time the two girls were found dead near Weleetka.

Brown says the OSBI would like to clarify that the man in the sketch had a long ponytail that stretched to the small of his back.

“We’re getting a lot of phone calls where it turns out the guy has a short ponytail or only shoulder length,” Brown said.

Investigators have struggled to determine a motive in the killings of 13-year-old Taylor Paschal-Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker. Funerals for the girls were held recently.
