Blackfeet woman raising funds for Cancer Research

Dear Editor,

A member of the Blackfeet Tribe, Mary Reevis, is training to compete in the Nation’s Triathlon in Washington, D.C., September 14, while raising funds to advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

She will swim, bike, and run for Native American leukemia and blood cancer patients across Indian Country who are faced with the numerous challenges of these diseases. The Nation’s Triathlon consists of a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike ride, and a 10K run.

The Society’s Team in Training (TNT) is the world’s largest endurance sports training program.

Reevis was born and raised in Browning, MT. Her parents are Lloyd and Lila Reevis.

Mary says, “It is my honor to train for and participate in the Nation’s Triathlon for all Native people who have been impacted by these blood cancers. Every step I run, every mile I pedal, every lap I swim, I think of all of our Native people who are impacted and the battle they face every day. They are my honored partners. When I am tired and hurting after a workout, I think of their loved ones and the prayers they are praying and the hope they have of finding a cure. So, I take a deep breath and go the extra distance because my heart is with them.”

Mary has committed to raise $2,700 for the Leukemia Society. To donate to the Leukemia Society on behalf of Mary and her running partners, you can go to her website and donate on line. If you decide to donate by check or money order, please make out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and put Mary Reevis’ name on the memo line or somewhere on the face of the money order and please mail to Mary Reevis, P. O. Box 2679, Browning, MT 59417. These contributions are all tax deductible and will help so many people.
