Airway Heights, Washington (AP) July 2011
If the Spokane Tribes proposed casino in Airway Heights is approved, the first big payouts will go to Spokane County and the city of Airway Heights.
The Spokesman-Review newspaper reported that the local governments have signed agreements with the Spokanes that would provide regular payments by the tribe in lieu of business and property taxes.
The proposed casino has numerous hurdles to jump before it is built. First the federal government needs to approve the project. Then the governors office has to approve.
The project has drawn opposition from the Kalispel tribe, whose Northern Quest Casino is nearby.
