Choctaws ready to meet with Jackson Co. officials

Pascagoula, Mississippi (AP) 9-07

The Mississippi Band of Choctaws will meet with Jackson County supervisors to discuss proposed plans for a casino, according to tribal officials.

“I have been in touch with (board of supervisors) President Tim Broussard and we are coordinating final details for a meeting in the very near future,” Melissa Mullinax, a political adviser to Choctaw Chief Beasley Denson, said on the 13th of September in a www.sunherald.com article.

Broussard said he would like to meet with tribal officials before the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 27.

Broussard said supervisors want to talk with Denson, who was elected in July.

“It will be the Choctaw presentation to us,” said Broussard, who said board meetings are open to the public.

A nonbinding referendum to test community support for a casino will be on the Nov. 6 ballot in Jackson County. The Choctaws own land at Exit 57 of Interstate 10 and have proposed building a $375 million casino.
