Groundbreaking held for Cherokee museum

Enid, Oklahoma (AP) 9-07

Ground has been broken for the $8 million Cherokee Stripe Regional Heritage Center project.

The project involves the renovation and 12,000-square-foot expansion of the existing Museum of the Cherokee Strip.

“The Homesteaders,” statue by H.T. Holden was unveiled at the conclusion of the groundbreaking ceremony Sunday.

The heritage center will feature all new exhibits and will include a reading and research room, a large special exhibits gallery, increased collections storage and an enlarged plaza area for events.

The architect is Fritz Bailey of Tulsa. The exhibit design firm is Quatrefoil of Maryland and D.C. Bass and Sons of Enid is the construction manager.
