Take a slow ride to Cliff Castle Casino for the eighth annual Thunder Valley Rally on September 20-21. Saturday’s 5-stop poker run and concert featuring Foghat will be followed by a bike show, a raffle for valuable prizes, and live entertainment on Sunday.

This year’s rally will benefit the Save The Family Foundation of Arizona, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless families who are often victims of domestic violence. Save The Family has provided thousands of people with housing and family needs along with career, legal, and parent counseling over the last 20 years.

Motorcyclists throughout Arizona and the western states will ride the Verde Valley and Mogollon Rim on Saturday with stops at Ernie’s Smoke Shop on Hwy 260 in Camp Verde, the Long Valley Café at Clint’s Well, the Mormon Lake Lodge at Mormon Lake, and Pine Woody’s Pizza and Grill in Munds Park. Cash prizes totaling $10,000 will be awarded to the highest and lowest poker hands for riders and passengers.  Advance online registration is available from August 25 at 8 am to September 17 at 5 pm at Day of registration will be on Saturday, September 20 from 7 am-9 am.


Each ride participant will receive one free drawing entry for prizes. An additional  bonus entry will be given for every $1, or six entries for every $5 donation made to Save The Family. Cliff Castle Casino will match the total donations up to $5,000.  Commemorative T-shirts and ride pins will be available for purchase while supplies last. All T-shirt and pin money benefits Save The Family.

After the poker run, Foghat will take the stage in the Stargazer Pavilion at 8 pm on Saturday. Gates open at 5 pm; Radio Dogma will open the concert at 6 pm. General seating tickets $25. You can purchase tickets by going online at or call the Castle Club at (928) 567-7999.

With thirteen separate categories to choose from, along with cash prizes for Oldest Rider, Oldest Bike, and Farthest Traveled, bike show prizes total over $8,000, and all judging is people’s choice. Bike Show will be held on Sunday from 8 am to 12 pm with a raffle every half hour for valuable prizes from 10 am to 2 pm. Shut Up And Drive will be performing from 10 am to 2 pm.

Thanks to more than 1,300 participants at the 2007 Thunder Valley Rally Poker Run, more than $24,000 was raised for Save The Family last year.
