Anchorage, Alaska (AP) 11-08

The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame has five new members.

Two Olympic skiers made the hall – silver medalist Hilary Lindh of Juneau and 18-time national champ Nina Kemppel of Anchorage.

Also chosen was Wally Leask of Metlakatla, captain of the University of Washington basketball team in 1943, and Col. Norman Vaughan, the polar explorer, adventurer and Iditarod racer.

The World Eskimo-Indian Olympics was selected as the newest Hall of Fame event.

Hall of Fame moments picked this year included the first winter ascent of Mount McKinley and Doug Herron’s national record in the 800 meters during the 1985 Alaska High School Track and Field Championships.
