Medal of Honor recipient honored

Sulphur, Oklahoma (AP) 4-09

A permanent plaque was unveiled at the Arbuckle Historical Society Museum to recognize the late Lt. Col. Raymond Harvey, a Sulphur resident and a Chickasaw tribal member who received the Medal of Honor for valor during the Korean War.

Harvey won the medal for his actions on March 9, 1951, in using his rifle and grenades to take enemy positions in the face of machine gun fire and suffering a gunshot wound to the chest in the process.

Roland Earsom, the museum’s director, said the plaque is the culmination of seven months of research.
