A Massachusetts man who lost his leg in an accident at Foxwoods Resort Casino in 2006 has reached a $2.9 million settlement with the tribe that operates the casino.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation agreed to pay the money to 68-year-old Richard Murch of Tewksbury. The settlement, which also includes $100,000 from the owner of the other vehicle, was reached during early August as the case was headed to trial.

Tribal officials called it their largest settlement.

Murch, a retired assistant general manager of a utility company, was at Foxwoods celebrating his 45th wedding anniversary. His lawyers said he was standing behind his car at a hotel when a car started by a valet ran into him.

Murch said he was happy with the settlement, which both sides called fair.
