An Arizona man has given his American Indian art collection to the University of Oklahoma.
Oklahoma University President David Boren told university regents last week about the gift from James T. Bialac.
During almost 50 years, Bialac has amassed a collection of more than 3,500 works from indigenous cultures across North America, especially the Pueblos of the Southwest, the Navajo, the Hopi, tribes of the Northern and Southern Plains and southeastern tribes.
The value of the gift wasnt immediately clear, although the university is calling it a multimillion-dollar collection.
Selections from Bialacs collection will be displayed at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the Donald E. Pray Law Library and at other locations on OUs campus.
