Utah State students start dig for artifacts

Logan Utah (AP)7-09

Students in a new archaeological field school course at Utah State University hope to find Paleo-Indian artifacts at an excavation near the Bear River.

The owner of the southeast Idaho farmland has already found several ancient spear points.

Bonnie Pitblado, an assistant professor and director of USU’s anthropology museum, says the 10-day dig that was set to start July 8th might uncover items up to 9,000 years old.

Pitblado and her 19 students will dig trenches and excavate and will then start a 20-day lab session to analyze their finds.
