Thousands attend Va Thanksgiving Festival

Charles City, Virginia (AP) November 2010

About 2,000 people joined in commemorating the first Thanksgiving by English settlers at Virginia’s Berkeley Plantation in 1619.

The celebration along the James River about 25 miles east of Richmond last week marked the 49th Virginia Thanksgiving Festival.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that among the participants were the Chickahominy Indian tribe, which entertained spectators with traditional dances.

The Colonial Players of the Fort Lee Playhouse also staged the reenactment of the landing by 38 settlers at Berkeley Plantation and their resolve to have a yearly day of giving thanks.
