New, permanent bridge opens on Little Wind River

Riverton, Wyoming (AP) July 2011

Drivers have started using a new, permanent bridge over the Little Wind River in central Wyoming, but U.S. 26 west of Riverton remains closed due to flooding.

State transportation officials say about 250 feet of the highway is still under water. The Wyoming Department of Transportation will repair the eroded road once the flood waters recede.

The highway on the Wind River Reservation has been closed since the end of June.

Next week, crews will start dismantling a temporary bridge over the Little Wind River. The bridge was put up after flooding severely damaged a bridge last year.
