Port of Tacoma, tribe, terminal operator agree on development

Tacoma, Washington (AP) 2-08

The Port of Tacoma, Puyallup Tribe and terminal operator SSA Marine have negotiated a deal to develop shipping container terminals on the east side of the Blair Waterway on Tacoma’s Tideflats.

The port commission is expected to approve its part of the deal at a meeting in mid Febuary.

By 2012, the east side of the Blair Waterway may eventually have four terminals for ships to load and unload cargo containers.

The agreement allows the port to complete the widening of the Blair Waterway, so it can accommodate some of the world’s largest ships.
