An Oklahoma State University student from Talihina will receive a Udall scholarship for her senior year.

Environmental science major Savannah Smith learned of the honor during April. She is the sixth OSU student to receive a Udall scholarship since the program was created in 1992.

The scholarship provides $5,000 in educational expenses to outstanding sophomores or juniors who are studying the environment or related fields or are American Indians or Alaska Natives in fields related to health care or tribal public policy.

Smith will attend the Udall Scholar Orientation Weekend in Tucson, Ariz., in August.

OSU President Burns Hargis says Smith’s honor is emblematic of the university’s goal to produce quality students who make a commitment to changing the world.
