Former Osage Nation employee indicted for embezzlement

Tulsa, Oklahoma (AP) 4-08

A former director of several Osage Nation tribal programs has been indicted on charges of embezzling from the tribe.

Cynthia Willard is accused in a grand jury indictment of taking more than $38,000 from the tribe while working as director of the tribe’s Boys & Girls Clubs and the Women, Infants and Children Program.

The indictment says she deceived the tribe into believing federal grants were spent on new carpeting and other improvements to facilities associated with tribal programs. It says she spent the money instead on carpeting and improvements for an inn she co-owned in Eureka Springs, Ark.
