More than 100 elected tribal leaders from Montana’s eight tribal governments were invited to the 2008 Tribal Leader’s Summit in Helena.

Gov. Brian Schweitzer convened the annual summit April 21 at the State Capitol.

The summit is held annually to encourage state-tribal dialogue and to honor the government-to-government relationship between the state and tribal governments.

Members of the governor’s cabinet, the State-Tribal Economic Development Commission, American Indian Legislative Caucus, congressional delegation and other elected state executive and judicial officials are also invited.

During the summit, the eight tribal chairs and presidents will have an opportunity to speak about issues affecting their people and priorities for state-tribal cooperation in the coming year.

The summit will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Capitol.
