Hog farm protest continues

An opponent of a hog farm being built west of Wagner says the protest near the site will continue in the future.

Members of the Yankton Sioux Tribe were joined by University of South Dakota students at the demonstration site.

Opponents say they worry that the hog farm will cause pollution.

It’s been reported that the farm could harbor an average of 3,350 sows and produce 70,000 piglets a year.

There were concerns that the protest could become violent after a demonstrator was charged with throwing an object and several other people were detained earlier.

However, Charles Mix County Sheriff Ray Westendorf says demonstration was “pretty calm.”
