Hog farm injunction sought

A group known as Yankton Sioux Tribe Head Start Concerned Parents has gone to federal court to get a judge to stop construction of a large-scale hog farm west of Wagner.

Frances Zephier, Robin Bair and Rachel Bernie filed a request for an injunction in U.S. District Court in Sioux Falls on April 23.

Their court document says work on Long View Farm should be stopped until the developers comply with federal environmental and historic preservation laws.

More than a dozen protesters were arrested near the site April 22.

Officials of Long View Farm, owned by 11 Iowa farmers, have said the operation could house an average of 3,350 sows and produce 70,000 pigs a year.
