North Dakota Cowboy Hall celebrated Indian heritage

Medora, North Dakota (AP) August 2010

The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora Aug. 21 celebrated Native American culture.

The event was featuring American Indians from North Dakota who are nationally recognized for their preservation of Native American heritage and culture.

Amy Mossett is known for her work on the history and culture of the Mandan and Hidatsa tribes, and particularly for her knowledge of the Lewis and Clark guide Sakakawea.

Phil Baird is the academic dean of United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck and a recognized scholar on the sport of rodeo.

Wallace “Butch” Thunderhawk of Bismarck is a recognized scholar on Native American arts and traditions.
