Tribal chairman to ND: Let’s work together

Three Affiliated Tribes Chairman Tex Hall says North Dakota’s tribes are eager to work with state officials to resolve problems that both governments face.

Hall spoke last week to a joint session of the North Dakota House and Senate.

He says oil development on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation has brought money to the Three Affiliated Tribes, but it’s hard on reservation roads and public works.

Hall says the tribe wants to reopen a state agreement that divides reservation oil tax revenues between the state and tribe. He says the tribe needs a larger share to help deal with the industry’s impact on the region.

Hall says reservations have problems with high unemployment and young people dropping out of school. He’d like to see more state help for vocational training.
