Gov. Daugaard issues order reorganizing agencies

Pierre, South Dakota (AP) January 2011

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has issued an executive order to make official his plans to reorganize some state agencies.

He says the changes will focus the efforts of the agencies and allow them to operate as efficiently as possible.

The governor is splitting the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs into two departments. One will handle the South Dakota National Guard and the other veterans programs.

He also is creating a new Department of Tribal Relations.

Another change transfers some regulatory duties from the Department of Revenue and Regulation to the Department of Labor. The new Revenue Department will focus on tax collection, while the new Labor and Regulation Department will run labor and regulatory programs.

Daugaard also is splitting tourism promotion and economic development into separate agencies.
