Foxwoods union election set for Nov. 24

Hartford, Connecticut (AP) 11-07

The National Labor Relations Board has set a union election at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Nearly 3,000 dealers can vote Nov. 24 on whether they will be represented by the United Auto Workers.

A spokesman for the NLRB regional office in Hartford says the logistics for setting the election two days after Thanksgiving were not easy.

The casino is typically filled with customers celebrating the start of the holiday season, requiring the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation that operates the casino to schedule dealers to leave gambling tables to vote.

The federal labor agency also must find enough NLRB employees to staff the election for 15 hours.

The UAW says it won support from more than half of the dealers to force the election and welcomes the vote.

A call seeking comment was placed to a spokesman for the Mashantucket Pequots.
