Senate confirms new Indian gaming commission chair

The Senate has confirmed a member of the Tulalip Tribes in Washington state as chairwoman of the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Tracie Stevens most recently served as senior adviser to Assistant Interior Secretary for Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk. She also has worked in various capacities for her tribe, including as senior policy analyst with the Tulalips government affairs office.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said that Stevens brings a wealth of expertise and experience on both tribal government and gaming issues.
The gaming commission regulates gaming activities on Indian lands. Its mission includes shielding tribes from organized crime and corruption, and ensuring that tribes are the primary beneficiaries of gaming revenue.
