More Yellowstone bison sent to slaughter

Sixty-two more bison from Yellowstone National Park were shipped to slaughter and another 35 were captured later in the day.

So far this year, 991 bison have been trucked to slaughter – 884 from the north side of Yellowstone and 107 along the west side – in an effort to keep them from migrating out and risking the possibility of spreading brucellosis to cattle, according to park officials.

Park officials said 93 bison remained in the Stephens Creek capture pens.

They’re expected to be shipped to slaughter in the coming days.

The meat, heads and hides are donated to tribal groups and social service organizations.
