Nez Perce Tribe officials warn about cougar

Lapwai, Idaho (AP) 8-08

Officials with Nez Perce Tribe Conservation Enforcement are warning Lapwai residents to take extra care when outside after dark because of recent cougar sightings.

A conservation officer has seen a male cougar twice in a Lapwai subdivision in recent days. Both sightings occurred in the early morning hours.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has placed a live-trap in the area. Nez Perce Conservation Enforcement Chief Ada Villavicencio says the animal is believed to have been displaced from another area and is likely looking to establish a new home range.
