Sick eagle being treated at La Mesa vet clinic

A golden eagle with apparent kidney problems has been rescued on a San Diego County Indian reservation.

A Viejas Reservation security guard spotted the bird on the ground Sept. 27, and the eagle is now being treated in La Mesa.

A tribal member wrapped a blanket around the bird and placed it in a large dog carrier before taking it to the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center.

Veterinarian Todd Cecil says the eagle was dehydrated and appears to have kidney problems. Cecil says the eagle could have eaten something that caused an infection or something that was poisonous.

Once the bird is feeling better, it will likely go to Project Wildlife, a San Diego group that rehabilitates injured wild animals.
