David Coons: Helping out Fishing Has No Boundaries

By Paul DeMain
Reserve, Wisconsin (LCOTV) 5-09

David Coons helped support the program "Fishing Has No Boundaries" when it first started in Northern Wisconsin over 24 years ago, providing fishing experiences to mentally and physically handicapped individuals.

About 15 years ago, Coons fell off a scaffold at a construction site and shattered his feet, ankles and leg bones and despite healing, is now confined to a wheelchair most of the time.

A member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Tribe, and growing up in Whitefish on the Reserve, Coons has always fished and has worked with a positive attitude to volunteer his time helping this program grow.

"Volunteer for any organization, it will really help you out individually"
